Greenskies Renewable Energy LLC, one of the fastest growing solar energy companies in the eastern United States, has expanded its presence into five new states, stretching its reach across the entire country.
The company said it has broken ground on 57 new photovoltaic solar projects that will produce a total of about 25 megawatts of solar energy in five states in which it has never previously built a solar installation – Arizona, California, Maryland, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
Twenty-five megawatts is enough energy to power about 4,250 New England households for a full year, according to the Energy Information Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Energy.
All 57 projects are rooftop solar arrays that will be built on large commercial building, and each is currently under construction, said Michael Silvestrini, Greenskies’ president and co-founder. Each installation is expected to be completed by the end of January 2016.
Greenskies has hired a number of new employees to help manage and oversee the construction and operation of the new arrays, Silvestrini said. The new employees include associates who live in the states in which the projects are being built and will be responsible for maintaining the systems throughout their contractual life cycles.
