Greenskies Clean Focus Celebrates 15 Years: A Journey to a Sustainable World

Greenskies Clean Focus (GCF), a national leader in renewable energy solutions, is delighted to announce its 15th anniversary. Since 2009, GCF has consistently demonstrated its commitment to providing clean, sustainable power solutions to commercial, public sector, and utility customers across the U.S.
Over the past 15 years, GCF has developed and constructed over 315 MW of solar facilities across 600 sites in 19 states, solidifying its position as a leading provider for national retailers, real estate owners, municipalities, and schools. Notably, GCF has partnered with over thirty percent of municipalities in its home state of Connecticut and is a key partner of three of the top six corporate solar users in the U.S.
The journey began in 2009 when Clean Focus established its roots in California, followed closely by the founding of Greenskies in Connecticut. Greenskies Clean Focus has achieved numerous milestones over the years, claiming its position as a commercial and industrial (C&I) solar market leader.
In 2011, Clean Focus completed the largest single rooftop solar array in the U.S. at the time, a 4.8 MW system located at Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth, NJ. This project showcased the company’s expertise in large-scale solar installations and demonstrated its commitment to transforming commercial spaces into renewable energy hubs. In 2014, Clean Focus completed Massachusetts’s largest landfill solar portfolio, nine sites, with a combined capacity of 22.1 MW, setting a new benchmark in the state. These projects repurposed underutilized space to provide the local community with clean and renewable energy.
In 2016, GCF surpassed 100 MW in cumulative installations, a noteworthy milestone made more momentous when Greentech Media (GTM) ranked the company the No. 1 solar energy company in the C&I market sector. This recognition was a testament to the company’s unwavering dedication to delivering top-notch renewable energy solutions.
Clean Focus and Greenskies joined forces in 2017, establishing itself as an industry-leading, vertically integrated platform that originates, develops, constructs, finances, owns, operates and maintains distributed generation projects. This strategic combination enabled the company to streamline its operations and provide comprehensive decarbonization solutions, including onsite and offsite solar, battery storage, microgrids, CCHP (Combined Cooling, Heat, and Power), and EV charging.
One of the key advantages of the company’s approach is its one-stop-shop model, which provides customers with a single point of contact for all their renewable energy and decarbonization needs. By streamlining the process and eliminating the need for multiple vendors, GCF ensures a seamless experience for its customers, saving them time and resources.
By 2018, GCF surpassed the 200 MW mark in cumulative installations, and in 2019, GCF was ranked No. 1 in cumulative C&I installations by Solar Power World. The company also bolstered its financial strength through strategic investments from JLC Infrastructure in 2019 and Allstate Investments in 2021. This infusion of capital amplified the company’s ability to fund projects allowing it to surpass $1 Billion in C&I projects.
With an additional strategic growth investment from Hull Street Energy in 2023, GCF will accelerate its development and expand its reach by focusing on large corporations, municipalities, and real-estate owners seeking an organizational- or portfolio-wide approach to decarbonization and low-cost solar energy.
