The Board of Education last week unanimously approved a plan to add solar panel arrays to the roofs of Philip R. Smith, Orchard Hill, and Wapping elementary school buildings.
Today, the Town of Simsbury, in cooperation with Asante Energy and Greenskies Renewable Energy, announced the successful completion of a 220kW rooftop solar array located at the Town’s recreation facility on Old Farms Road.
Solar panels will be placed on the roofs of three school buildings that could save South Windsor Public Schools up to $1.5 million over the 25-year lifespan of the system.
Revenue from the Lewis County solar array has covered about 59% of the county’s electricity bill over the past 15 months, and this is just the beginning.
