Senior Electrical Engineer – Solar PV & BESS
Summary
Greenskies is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as the dedicated technical escalation point for our solar PV and battery energy storage projects. The engineer will review and validate electrical designs, diagnose commissioning issues, and ensure projects adhere to industry standards and code requirements. The Engineer’s expertise will streamline project delivery and empower the team to resolve technical challenges effectively.
Location(s): Hybrid with preference for NYC or North Haven, CT
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Technical Leadership & Design Oversight
- Design Reviews: Act as the subject matter expert. Review and approve project drawings (single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layouts) to ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, and applicable utility standards.
- Problem Solving: Serve as the technical escalation point for project engineers. Diagnose design and commissioning issues to preemptively resolve challenges before they impact project schedules.
- Specification Validation: Evaluate equipment specifications and factory test reports to confirm that all components meet performance and safety requirements.
Commissioning & Field Support
- Test Procedures: Develop and oversee witness test procedures for C&I solar PV and BESS systems. Ensure proper SCADA integration and performance validation.
- On-Site Diagnostics: Conduct site visits (up to 20% travel) to troubleshoot commissioning challenges, verify system performance, and confirm adherence to design specifications.
- Issue Resolution: Provide hands-on support and timely solutions for escalated commissioning issues, ensuring smooth project handoffs and successful system activations.
Interconnection & Grid Integration
- Utility Collaboration: Work with the Grid Integration team to review interconnection studies, utility pre-screen reports, and ensure that project interconnections meet utility requirements.
- Technical Input: Offer insights during utility negotiations, addressing challenges specific to sub-1MW asset installations and streamlining the interconnection process.
Process Improvement & Mentorship
- Standardization: Develop and maintain company-wide electrical design standards, drawing libraries, and QA/QC protocols tailored to C&I projects.
- Team Development: Mentor project engineers Provide technical guidance on design best practices and commissioning procedures to build a more structured, high-performing team.
Innovation & Research
- Industry Trends: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to C&I solar PV and BESS, with an emphasis on advanced inverter functionalities and grid-edge solutions.
- Product Evaluation: Lead the evaluation and recommendation of new products and process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: 4+ years in electrical engineering with a focus on solar PV and BESS systems, preferably with hands-on experience in C&I projects.
- Technical Tools: Familiarity with electrical modeling tools (ETAP, SKM, AmpCalc) and AutoCAD is advantageous.
- Certifications & Technical Expertise

- Certifications: EIT required; PE license preferred.
- Standards Knowledge: Deep understanding of NEC, IEEE standards, and interconnection requirements.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical challenges in design and commissioning, especially within the C&I solar space.
